CQC Report 2018

Barnsley Healthcare Federation response to CQC inspection of Highgate Surgery

We would like to assure all of our patients that since the time of the inspection, we have introduced a number of new measures, designed to address the points raised within the report. As part of this work, we have:

  • Made changes to the way in which staff are recruited and keep up-to-date with their training
  • Improved our patient feedback and complaints procedures
  • Introduced new measures to identify and manage the identification of and treatment of sepsis
  • Made improvements to our clinical governance policies. Dr David Shutt, Medical Director, Barnsley Healthcare Federation said:

“Since our inception, Barnsley Healthcare Federation has sought to enhance the standards of primary care for those living within the Barnsley borough. We remain firmly committed to ensuring patients in Highgate are capable of receiving the right medical advice at the right time.

“I joined the Federation as Medical Director in November and immediately began conducting a comprehensive review of all areas of work being delivered by Barnsley Healthcare Federation. This work included enhancing the way in which care is delivered across all of our surgeries, consulting with our patients via our patient participation groups and examining the ways in which care was being delivered. This work has been ongoing and used to shape and influence the way in which all of our practices operate.

“Since the time of the inspection, we have escalated many of our planned changes to the way in which our practices operate. This has included revising many of our internal systems and procedures, as well as conducting a complete overhaul of the way in which patient feedback and complaints are handled.”

“I would like remind patients that we always welcome comments, suggestions and feedback of their experiences of care and I would urge anyone who has concerns over the care they have received at Highgate, or indeed any services provided by Barnsley Healthcare Federation, to get in touch.

“Although we are disappointed with the results of the CQC inspection for Highgate Surgery, I would like to reassure all patients at Highgate that providing a safe, effective and caring service which responds to their needs remains our highest priority.”
